RCA tablet keeps shutting off on its own: reasons and solution
To find an appropriate fix, you first need to troubleshoot and find the cause of this problem.
Below is a list of possible reasons why your RCA tablet may be shutting off randomly and some helpful fixes related to it.
1. Bad battery
Ways to know whether your RCA tablet battery has failed include checking whether it drains way too abruptly. You can charge it to 100% and notice whether it going down to 70-80% and then to 10-20% within a few minutes. After this, it will likely shut your tablet off. You might also notice it overheating over little usage. In either case, your best bet is to have it replaced by RCA or a repair shop.
2. Third-party apps (virus, malware, etc.)
It is likely that you might have installed an app that can be causing this issue on your device. In this case, you can try running your tablet in Safe Mode. Safe Mode disables all third-party apps.
In order to enter Safe Mode, you need to press and hold the Power button. It is located at the right or upper part of your device. Hold this until the Power Off menu appears.
You need to do this while your tablet is still active. From the Power Off menu, press and hold Power Off until the Safe Mode prompt appears. Then tap OK. This will put your device under Safe Mode.
If your device runs just fine in Safe Mode, then it is very likely that it has some virus, malware, etc that needs to be removed. After cleaning it up, restart your device to come out of Safe Mode. In case your device persists to shut itself off in Safe Mode, it is possibly a hardware-related issue.
3. Bad motherboard
Almost every component in your tablet is connected to your motherboard and replacing the motherboard with a different model will cause major instability issues.
One of the symptoms of a bad motherboard is boot failure. The device will start to turn on but then shuts down. Other symptoms include frequent “blue screens of death” or Windows errors, and freezing of the device for no apparent reason.
You might also notice connected devices that previously worked have stopped working. This issue is better inspected by a certified technician with experience in diagnosing and repairing motherboards.
4. Seek RCA help
If nothing works, it is best to contact RCA support at (800) 252- 6123. They can provide you with some troubleshooting steps that can get your device back to normal.
5. A hard reset:
A hard reset should be your very last resort since it means having all your data, files, and memory erased from your tablet. However, this can be just what your device needs if it is running out of memory and overheats itself.
This can be done by selecting the Factory Reset option in your Settings. It is recommended to have your data backed up before resetting the device.
6. Replacement or refund
If your RCA tablet is still under warranty and none of the fixes above seem to be working then it is recommended that you send it back to RCA and ask for a replacement or refund.
Having your device frequently shutting itself down can be bad. However, this is a common issue. The problem can stem from a variety of reasons from a bad battery to a bad motherboard.
